Well, I have finally done it... Booked a hotel and flight to Athens... Cant wait! I have been wanting to return to this city for over 20 years! I last visited when on a school cruise (SS Uganda) We arrived at the port but had a class trip to Delphi - a fantastic place (and I must scan my pics and blog them!) BUT.... I was so close yet, so far.... I did not go the the acropolis!!! How could the teacher do that to us!!! Well I am finally going to see the acropolis, in fact the hotel has a roof top garden over looking the hill, so, yep, I am finally going to see what I have been waiting a long time to see :-) :-) Thanks to Mr H for not saying no re price :-) !!!!

I am an outstanding teacher, Grade 1. A recognition I have worked very hard for over the last few years.

Southampton & the Arcadia

The above picture shows the start of our walk around the old town and exploring the walls. Southampton was brilliant; better than I had anticipated. We headed towards the docks. Remember, I blogged about the competition I entered to win a cruise on the new Ventura... alas, I did not win but was invited to join a tour of a fleet ship of our choice and enjoy lunch on board.... ok.... I settled for that
So, the day before the event, I wanted to go to the River Test viewing points and see the cruise ships in dock.

To my delight, the Sun Princess was just sailing in passed the Royal Pier and Mayflower Park. I was so excited (nearly as excited as actually boarding a ship!!!) http://www.blog.co.uk/media/photo/dsc00570/2723580

OK, excitement over, we made our way along Town Quay to the marina where the Hythe Ferry terminal is based (very busy area!) http://www.blog.co.uk/media/photo/dsc00573/2736513

There was another viewing point for cruise ships at the quay. Here you could look over to the Eastern docks to where the Titanic was docked all those years ago – the ship of dreams! Later we visited the memorial site at dock gate 4 (Queen Elizabeth the II Cruise terminal), off Canute Road.

We ended up as far as the marina off Riverr Itchen and near to the yacht club. Very nice and a lot of development still underway. Another cruise ship was seen sailing in at a distance. Walking back we went along Oxford street and Bernard street and came across the Holyrood church ruins

What a brilliant day and the weather to match
No cruising yet so … during hubbies two weeks annual leave, we took days out to various places….. We had to start this particular day with a coffee…. Back from Wales after a weekend away with family & friends. The weather forecast was depressing but to be fair, the sun kept popping out at every opportunity and we certainly braved the weather front!! Only got soaked once!! LOL!
Look at this for a cloud swirl!! Coming from the mouth of the Afon Mawddach estuary. Looks very eerie!!

Weekend in Southampton but Barmouth first!

Well, I won the 'booby' prize.... Not a cruise on the new Ventura but a tour around a P&O ship of my choice!!! OK, such is life.

I have a hotel booked for the night before and after and I intend to enjoy every minute of this. The purse wont stretch for a week or two away at present and I certainly dont want to leave my 17 year old (plus village mates... ) on a free for all with the house!! Poor Brutie will be leaving home!!!! So I have taken full advantage of this weekender.... Nannie & GD up for junior sleepover.... Mr 17 in charge of house & Brutie (or should I say Brutie in charge of Mr 17 & house???!!!!) .... Have not told him yet, less time to organise a party hehe!!

I will count the weeks down but before that, its a weekend away to our favourite part of the Welsh coast.. 5 days to go :-)

Mr H would love to see the dolphins.... I have spotted some on several cruises and across the bay... he is still searching ... bless!

Will it be a jog or walk along the estuary on Sunday morning?

OOooh cant wait... never mind, I cant afford to travel & see more of the world... I am going home at the weekend :-) :-) :-)

Well it’s been that time of the year again, although I have not been a party animal as years gone by.... I have travelled though... not abroad as I dream of doing but nearer to home. Last weekend we (my family) were over at Splash Landings hotel, Alton Towers. Great place for families… Time out, pampering, entertainment and good buffet for all to enjoy.
My birthday was spent in Birmingham, I had to go shopping!!!

Enjoyed birthday lunch at Café Rouge…. Eldest joined hubby and I. (A rare treat for me these days!!)
The day ended on a quiet note at my brothers.
Where has all my energy gone??!!!

There truly is no place like home... while I am hunting for the next voyage to take us to more fantastic places in the world, I marvel at what I have on my door step. This photo was taken a few weeks ago when I was travelling home (I pulled over in my car, I hasten to add!)
Somewhere over the rainbow.... way up high… There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby! Someday I wish upon a star and wake up when the clouds are far behind me…. Where … where to next in the world….. ? |

Strolling through the woods

Strolling through the woods this time of the year is wonderful. This picture was taken as I thought the sun was shinning through the trees. It wasn't! The leaves were so bright with their changing colours. I was amazed! What was more amazing was the amount of squirrels we found around this area while out walking. What a truly relaxing, amazing day spent amidst mother nature!

I was compelled to look for Europe's Final countdown following a melody reminder.... I found it but then I found this video... junior would love this!!

Although travelling to different places in the country and world is my ultimate challenge in life; I love to spend time at home and enjoy the surrounding pleasures in life.
Earlier on in the year, I was woken by the dawn chorus of the birds... Where else on earth would I hear this again? Click on the link to hear

28 August; I guess I don't really appreciate what is so close to home. A stroll along the country lanes is as pleasurable as travelling to another part of the world... and yet less expensive.

A day to remember or a day nearly missed? The start of the holiday, a morning spend unwinding then an afternoon on a catamaran heading for the Pitons… fruit punch, rum punch and beer a plenty…. Oh and UB40 music playing.
No sight of Captain Jack though!!

Princess Cruise Dec 2006

This was the first experience I had on board a Princess Cruise ship; Crown Princess. It was also my first time visiting the Caribbean. I travelled with my family during the Christmas school holidays. What a fantastic experience; the islands are so magnificent. The laid back and friendly culture of the people, the scenery, the spice and floral scent was wonderful.
To lay on a soft white sandy beach, under a palm tree was idyllic.

Oh how I would love to be making my way back to the Caribbean again.... Jamaica next stop??

I remember the early mornings, waiting for the sunrise.... wonderful

This has to be the best photo I have taken. I remember how dramatic the scenery was as the colour of the sky changed, then the sound of the morning cockerel, birds singing and only the gentle lap of the sea passing the ship as we sailed into port ;-) Fantastic!
